Japanese superstar Kei Nishikori has withdrawn from the 24th GERRY WEBER OPEN. The No. 6 in the world and No. 2 seed in Halle is suffering a rib injury. The 26 year-old Japenese player, who was a semi-finalist in 2014 and 2015 was to play Florian Mayer on Wednesday. "I'm very sad to not be able to go on playing". Nishikori said.

Due to Nishikori pulling out Mayer goes straight through to the quarter finals. In stead of the match Nishikori / Mayer the all-German match Benjamin Becker against Alexander Zverev will be played on the Centre Court of the GERRY WEBER STADIUM.
