After 1, 47 h Dustin Brown had to admit defeat. For a long time he held on to the match against Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP19). In the end it was 4:6, 6:1, 6:7(6), though, in favour of the Spaniard, who will now meet Philipp Kohlschreiber or Alexander Zverev.
"I lost, that never makes you happy", Brown said after the match, quite subdued. Already in the first set the German startet with problems: After four faults, two of them double-faults, he collected a break and was 0:3 behind quickly. His risky shots were not very presice and often landed in the net or behind the baseline. As in his first round duel against Vasek Pospisil (Canada) Brown had big issues with his service game: "Because of the sun I especially had issues on the one side with my service", he said about his service. During the first set he got better, got a break to make it 4:4. Then following, "Dreddy", as he is called by his fans, gave away a further break chance. Bautista Agut let another break follow to win the set after 36 minutes.
The second set then was a "Dreddy-Show". The audience at the GERRY WEBER STADION was thrilled by their favourites' spectacular game. Especially by the net the 32 year-old showed a convincing performance. His service was safer, too and so he was able to balance 6:1 by sets after 61 minutes.
The last set was more even. Both players acted steadier and also tried some risky shots. Brown got a break to make it 3:1, had to accept a re-break straight away, though. The exciting match had to be decided in tiebreak. It was there that the Spaniard profited by his opponants' faults and converted his second match point to make it: 6:4, 6:1, 7:6 (6).
